Compare variants

Save the variant, then change the parameters to compare the surface area.

The outline is just the beginning. The rock is an open shell. Its sides, top, ledges, and ridges create a surface area significantly larger than the space it occupies.

How do we calculate the surface area?

The model calculates the sum of the areas of all triangles in the visible 3D shell. The surface multiplier is the surface area of the shell divided by the specified floor or wall area.

The base and wall area have an irregular outline with a precisely defined area. The dimensions specify its maximum width and height or depth, and their product is not the area of the outline. Extending the rock changes the height of a freestanding rock or its projection from the wall. Ledges and ridges are created by shifting the shared vertices of the solid’s faces. The rock’s silhouette changes while maintaining the base area and maximum dimensions.

This is a conceptual approximation, not a survey or cost estimate. The actual surface area depends on the design, the proportions of the outline, the details and the connections to the surroundings.

Base Area vs. Total Surface Area

The base area is the projection of the rock onto the floor or the wall area intended for installation. The developed surface area includes the outer shell: sides, top, and creases. A taller or more protruding structure may require more modeling work for the same base area. The development factor determines the ratio of the shell’s surface area to the specified base area.

  • The same base area can involve a different scope of work.

  • Compare variations in height, projection, and rock folds.

  • See how changing the rock mass affects the area to be worked on.

  • Use the result for preliminary project discussions.

  • Accurate measurement requires consideration of the geometry and construction details.

Zakres kalkulacji

What does the calculation include?

The calculator estimates the external surface area of the artificial rock based on the dimensions provided and the degree of the structure’s curvature. For a freestanding rock, it accounts for the sides and the top; for wall-mounted installations, it also accounts for the form’s projection. The result is used to compare options and preliminarily determine the scope of work. It does not include layer thicknesses, material quantities, or construction costs, and it does not replace a detailed project measurement.

Freestanding rock

The sides and top of the structure, excluding the base that contacts the floor.

Wall-mounted structure

Front and side edges, without a rear surface adjacent to the wall.

Out of Scope

Support structure, layer thickness, material consumption, and labor costs. The model does not represent individual cavities, openings, or connections to utilities. Details, proportions, and the method of installing the rock require separate design.

Questions about the result

Does the calculator provide the cost of the job?

No. Area is just one factor in the estimate. Other factors include the structure, access to the work site, conditions of use, and the complexity of the decoration.

What area should I enter for a rock-themed wall?

Enter the area of the wall to be covered by the decoration, without including any overhangs. Overhangs and bends in the structure are separate parameters.

Does the model match my design?

The model shows an example of an irregular shape. Two rocks with the same maximum dimensions may have different surface areas. The result helps you compare concepts but does not replace a project measurement.

What should I submit for a custom quote?

Submit a floor plan or sketch with dimensions, photos of the site, and a description of the desired outcome. Specify the location and intended use of the structure. Include the parameters of the selected calculator option as a reference.
