The Lourdes Grotto in Rawa Mazowiecka is a sacred landscape project built within the Garden of Peace at the Parish of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The project was completed in 2022, and the total artificial rock built area was 250 m². The main objective was to create an artificial grotto inspired by the original Lourdes Grotto in France, preserving the naturalistic character of the rock formation and the function of a place for prayer and quiet reflection.
The scope included the construction of an artificial rock grotto that completely covers the sacristy and toilet building, forming a single rock mass up to 6.5 m high. The project also included a rooftop viewing terrace, rock stairs leading to the upper level, a stream on the internal wall of the grotto, an illuminated niche with a 2 m figure of Our Lady, planters for climbing plants and an altar made of artificial rock.
The project shows how artificial rock technology can be used not only in recreational or zoological facilities, but also in sacred spaces and contemplative gardens. The realization combines decorative, architectural and spiritual functions, creating a place with strong symbolic character that fits harmoniously into the Garden of Peace.
